"Dracula" by Bram Stoker is a masterpiece of English literature that has captivated me in a unique way. This epistolary tale, where the narrative unfolds through letters, journals and newspaper articles, transported me into a world filled with mystery and terror. One fascinating aspect of the novel is how the author skillfully blends the legend of Vlad the Impaler with the vampire myth, creating the iconic character of Count Dracula. In reality, Vlad the Impaler was a ruler known for his cruelty and this connection between history and fiction adds a special depth to the story. Another remarkable aspect is the well-crafted atmosphere of Transylvania, immersing you in a chilling landscape of old castles and dark forests. Stoker's detailed descriptions made me feel like I was right there in the midst of the action. With passion and suspense in my heart, the novel takes us back to Transylvania, which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and today is a part of beautiful Romania. Here begins a story that gripped me from the very first words. Jonathan Harker, a brave and adventurous English lawyer, embarks on a daring journey to Dracula's castle to assist the Count in purchasing property in London. However, from the moment he steps into the shadow of the Count's castle, no local dares to approach. A mysterious woman offers Harker a crucifix, hoping it will protect him from the impending evil. At first, nothing seems extraordinary in the castle, except for vague warnings not to enter certain rooms. But gradually, peculiarities start piling up. Count Dracula does not appear in mirrors at all and his lust for Harker's blood, spilled during a shaving accident, becomes evident. Observing the sharp teeth and red lips of the Count, Harker feels increasingly trapped in a horrifying predicament. Warnings to sleep only in a specific room seem to be disregarded in a moment of negligence, and Harker falls asleep in an unfamiliar chamber. Here, he is awakened by the disturbing presence of a trio of beautiful women with sharp teeth and bloodthirsty lips. Count Dracula stops them from biting Harker, claiming that Harker belongs to him. Horror begins to envelop Harker but eventually, he manages to escape from this terrifying trap and flee the castle. With every page I read, tension grows and the suspense kept me captive in the story. Dracula, thirsty for blood and eager to continue his evil deeds in England, relocates to the seaside town of Whitby. Here, a small group, led by the fearless Abraham Van Helsing, gathers to hunt down this malevolent vampire. This part of the story is full of action and mystery as the group strives to put an end to Dracula's terror. The story is brimming with suspense and tension, and the malevolence of Count Dracula is portrayed with a mastery that makes you both hate and fear him, yet also wish the story would never end. The way Dracula terrorizes the town of Whitby and the struggle of Van Helsing's small group to hunt him down adds a captivating element of action. This novel has captivated me with every page as I followed the battle between good and evil, humanity and vampire. "Dracula" is a novel in which the connection between history and fiction makes it truly fascinating. It is a genuine tribute to the myth of Dracula and a story that has become a landmark in horror literature.
